AFF Policy & Research Director Michelle Alston is leaving AFF after 10 years to become Chief Executive of the Forces in Mind Trust.
Michelle joined AFF in 2013 as AFF Researcher, bringing with her a background in analysis, policy and communications in the public sector.
She became the Head of Policy & Research in 2019 and the Policy & Research Director in 2020.
Michelle said: “It has been an amazing experience working for AFF and a privilege to represent Army families in raising their issues to policy makers. Army families face unique challenges but make a significant, and often unrecognised, contribution to Defence and therefore it’s key that their evidence and voices are heard.
“Juggling being an Army spouse and employment has been challenging during the last 20 years! It’s often been difficult to make it work, with frequent moves and frequent absences of my serving partner, but AFF allowed me to work flexibly and helped me develop my skills.
“I am hugely privileged to be asked to join Forces in Mind Trust as their Chief Executive and look forward to continuing to support our amazing community in a new way.”
Chief Executive Collette Musgrave said: “AFF has been hugely fortunate to have such a talented individual bringing the voices of Army families alive in the rooms where decisions are made. For many of us who are or have been part of a Service family, it can be difficult to develop and maintain a career, and we are so proud at AFF of what Michelle has achieved.”
