Funding to help Service pupils overcome disadvantages of military life

Schools with pupils from Forces families are being invited to apply for grants to help them provide targeted support.

The Armed Forces Education Trust is offering up to £50,000 to go towards schemes that help pupils overcome disadvantages resulting from their parents’ service, like separation and deployment, frequent moves and gaps in learning.

More than £300,000 in collective grants has been awarded to schools or education authorities over the past two years. Funding has helped teachers recognise distress in their pupils and develop strategies for early intervention, provide intensive maths support and pay for Service Pupil Champions.

Applications close on 12 May and applicants will be notified by the end of June.
