Initiatives that help to prevent domestic abuse within the military community or offer effective support to its victims could receive funding of up to £150,000.
The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (AFCFT) wants to support schemes that address current and emerging challenges within the Armed Forces community.
Grants made under the Free from Fear programme will be used to fund preventative and education measures, overcome barriers to help victims recognise and report domestic abuse, and enable them to access effective support.
Trust Chief Executive Anna Wright said it was intended to deal with the impact of domestic abuse while promoting long-term prevention. “We aim to implement sustainable initiatives that can support long-term change and improvement in a complex area.”
The programme is one of the first announced as part of a three-year £30m funding scheme developed after a consultation carried out last year.
Organisations including charities, community interest companies and military units can apply for grants of between £75,000 and £150,000 towards projects delivered over a period of up to two years.
The closing date for applications is noon on 16 October and a decision will be made before the end of December.
