Home-Start support for Forces families

Armed Forces families with children under five who are finding life difficult or suffering from mental health issues can call on charity Home-Start, with its team of volunteers who provide practical and emotional support.

Volunteers visit families for a couple of hours a week to help with childcare, offer a listening ear and let parents know that they are not alone.

Volunteers support Armed Forces families who are facing a range of challenges, including isolation, as they move away from their existing support networks of family and friends.

Last year, Home-Start volunteers helped more than 600 Armed Forces families in the UK, Cyprus and Germany. Help is confidential and free. To find a Home-Start in your area, phone 0116 464 5450 or see home-start.org.uk/forces-families

* AFF’s Health & Additional Needs Specialist is currently helping with research into perinatal mental health in Service spouses at The King’s Centre for Military Health Research in London. The next stage is to recruit people for a research study so keep a lookout for any updates on this on our website.
