It’s all about family

This winter we are focussing on family life here at AFF. Throughout November and December, we’ll bring you lots of useful information, news and updates on all the issues that affect you.

What we’ve been working on:

The big success of the year has been the launch of Forces Families Jobs, in partnership with the other Families Federations, after research indicated an online employment platform would help remove barriers to employment for spouses. Log on to for more information.

We’ve also worked with Foreign & Commonwealth families, including going to an immigration tribunal on behalf of a soldier who was having problems bringing his spouse to the UK. This was a success and the judge granted entry to the spouse under the ‘exceptional circumstances’ provision.

We hope to use this positive ruling to support similar applications from families and we will continue to raise this type of issue with senior command and ministers.

Local co-ordinators have also set up additional needs support groups in Northern Ireland, Colchester and Didcot, after families told us about the importance of these.

AFF also held roadshows in Germany before rebasing so that families could raise concerns and we have employed a rebasing co-ordinator in the Salisbury Plain area to help provide support.

Information about all the topics covered in the last year is available on our website.

But it doesn’t stop there…

Keep an eye on our social media throughout November and December to find out what we’re currently working on. If you have a specific concern, you can contact our specialists via our website.

We’d love to hear your views and welcome your comments, involvement and suggestions.
