Grants of up to £150,000 have been offered to help Service children reach their educational potential – almost double the ceiling in the previous funding round.
This year the Service Pupil Support Programme focuses on four themes and for the first time, the list includes the challenges created by mobility, deployment and separation.
Other themes that projects can address are closing the academic gap, support for pupils with special educational needs and low numbers of Service pupils.
Applications are open to local authorities, colleges, multi-academy trusts and schools in the UK who have children aged four to 18 from currently serving Armed Forces families on roll and have projects that meet one of the themes.
Grants are awarded for stand-alone projects delivered over a period of up to two years. The deadline is noon on 30 April and applicants will receive a decision by the end of June.
The programme is part of the MOD’s Armed Forces Families Fund and run by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
Previous grants have included £40,000 to Pencoed Primary School to help develop language, literacy and numeracy skills at a cluster of schools in South Wales and almost £80,000 to a group of five schools in Scotland to help Service pupils with additional needs.
Last year the AFCFT annual report said the Service Pupil Support Programme awarded more than £1.8m to 48 projects.
