Progress on 2018: housing

With summer just around the corner, some of you may have impending moves, including those of you rebasing back to the UK from Germany.

During May and June, AFF will be putting the spotlight on housing to help you with what to think about when moving house, and bringing you any news on FAM as and when we receive it.

AFF’s been using your evidence

In the third instalment of our progress updates on 2018, let us quickly tell you what we’ve been doing in support of families like yours…

Last year saw our housing enquiries increase by 28%! Your key issues included FAM worries, issues with council tax reductions for second homes and a lack of local connection preventing recently divorced spouses from accessing the social housing lists.

We’ve used your valuable evidence in discussions with influential contacts such as the MOD Covenant team, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), the Central and Army FAM teams and the Devolved Administrations.

Working on your behalf

We have also championed Army families at a series of meetings including those for FAM and for the Future Defence Infrastructure Services (FDIS) contract – the future maintenance contract for military housing. The evidence you provided us with as part of last year’s Big Survey has proven valuable in discussions with these contacts, so thank you for your candid responses!

For information on all the topics we covered with families last year: social housing, buying a home, council tax, housing complaints and more, visit the housing pages of our website.
