Taking the lead for non-UK families

AFF Policy & Research Director Michelle Alston co-chaired the Confederation of Service Charities’ (Cobseo) non-UK cluster meeting in London recently with Angela Kitching from the Royal British Legion.

Angela said: “Supporting our non-UK personnel, veterans and their families is important to RBL and AFF. It is great to work together to chair the Cobseo cluster so that we can identify the issues faced by the non-UK Armed Forces community and collaborate to deliver the best solutions.”

A wide range of groups attended including the Ministry of Defence.  Maj Naren Gurung from the Brigade of Gurkhas attended the meeting for the first time. He said: “I’m really glad to be part of the Cobseo non-UK cluster and witness their methodical approach to supporting our non-UK personnel, veterans, bereaved and families through collaboration to ensure that issues are raised and addressed.”

The key discussions included issues regarding the right to work, as well as concerns on communication and information for non-UK personnel, veterans and their families.
