Armed Forces route to settlement in the UK

The Government is looking at how the current settlement system should be reformed.

Settlement is someone’s right to live in the UK permanently without any immigration restrictions, also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).

You may be concerned about what this could mean for Army families. We can confirm that the Government is not planning to change the current settlement routes for Armed Forces personnel or their families.

But they are asking for views on current settlement routes. We think that the current route could be improved and we will be sharing a short questionnaire in January to gather your views. Your feedback will help us represent your concerns and experiences directly to policymakers.

You can respond directly to the current Government consultation.

Thank you to everyone who has already reached out with questions – please continue to contact us if you need support or clarification.
