Armed Forces Bill will create new military housing service

A new Defence Housing Service has been announced in the Armed Forces Bill 2026 currently going through Parliament.

Its role will be to improve availability and quality of military housing and secure the regeneration or development of surplus defence land. And it promises support by creating or developing Service communities.

Other measures alongside the Defence Housing Service include an extension of Armed Forces Covenant Legal Duty, changes to the Service Justice System to improve victim support and an expansion of the pool of Reserves.

The Armed Forces Bill was introduced to the House of Commons last week. It will be considered by MPs on 26 January at the second reading stage.
