Dual Accommodation Waiver to become permanent

A policy that allows Service personnel to use Single Living Accommodation (SLA) without charge at their duty station if they maintain a home elsewhere is to become permanent from April 1, 2026.

Introduced as a temporary scheme in March 2024, the Dual Accommodation Waiver (DAW) replaces older SLA waivers based on age and marital status.

Regulars and those on Full Time Reserve Service (Full Commitment) receiving the outdated waivers will automatically be transferred to the new scheme.

Some personnel on non-mobile commitments have been able to benefit from SLA waivers in the past. Because DAW was introduced to help mobile personnel with the cost of accommodation when assigned away from their main home, the MOD says eligibility will be limited to Regular and FTRS (FC) personnel.

But from April 1 eligible Reservists in SLA will be charged at entitled rates – a reduction from the current non-entitled rates.

The MOD has published information about eligibility for the Dual Accommodation Waiver on its website and via Sway which will be added to JSP 464 Vol 3.
