Charity to offer more employment support for Service children

The Forces Employment Charity is to expand its dedicated employment support for Service children with the help of a £25k grant from the Armed Forces Education Trust.

The money will be used to offer tailored one-to-one mentoring, career and education guidance and employability workshops, as well as the opportunity for work experience placements.

Many of the charity’s advisors are military spouses who understand the unique challenges UK Service children and young people deal with.

Broadening horizons

Director of Veterans and Families, James Murphy, said the grant gave the trust the means to provide personal support to young people in military families.

“We empower them to overcome challenges, build confidence and seize opportunities,” he explained.

“Young people are the driving force behind the UK’s future prosperity. Their energy, creativity and adaptability are essential in a rapidly changing world.”

AFET Chief Executive Charmian Hickman added: “We recognise that many Service children and young people may face additional challenges when deciding what to do after school. We are delighted to see the Young People’s team helping to broaden their horizons and give them the confidence to explore new opportunities.”

Last year the charity used an initial grant from AFET to give life skills, education, training and employment support to 756 Service children aged 16-24.
