Introduction of accommodation charges in small station locations

Changes to Local Overseas Allowance (LOA) policy mean that Service personnel will now be charged for accommodation at small stations, removing the previous exemption. This is to help fund the provision and maintenance of accommodation.

From 1 August 2024 anyone posted to, or already at, a small station location will be charged. This will be CAAS band J for SFA and SLA at Grade 4. The lowest grade or band will apply for all properties, even if it has been assessed at a higher one.

Small station location definition currently applies to the following locations:

Ascension Island, Belize, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Columbia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Ethiopia, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jerusalem, Jordan, Korea Republic, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mali, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Senegal, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Ukraine.

Small stations are also now liable for utility charges, however, these will not be charged at this stage. Work is ongoing to confirm how and when these charges will apply.
