Schools, families and organisations around the country are marking Month of the Military Child 2026 this April with events, competitions and artwork.
The annual celebration recognises Forces children, not just for the sacrifices they make as members of military families, but for their resilience. It offers schools a chance to shine a light on Service pupils’ experience of military life, like regular relocations and separation.
Never Such Innocence is staging a poetry and art competition for children of serving personnel, veterans and bereaved military-connected children. It runs until 1 May.
This year the theme is Winds of Change. Entrants between eight and 18 will earn a certificate. Winners will receive a £25 gift card with a goodie bag. They’ll also be invited to London for an award ceremony and a trip to the Tower of London.
Schools can win a £250 book voucher by entering the best display contest.
The charity has a range of free resources available for teachers, local authorities, parents and other groups.
You can dig out purple clothes and accessories for Purple Up Day on 24 April to show your support for Service children. Schools can organise non-uniform days, purple-themed art displays and even bake sales.
