New fund to support the bereaved military family community

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust has announced a new fund for charities that support bereaved military families.

The Empowering Bereaved Military Families programme will award a single grant to an organisation which will provide a range of provisions and develop a collaborative network, to support the bereaved military community.

Anna Wright, Chief Executive of the Trust, said: “We will seek to expand the support available to family members, including wider family members, and increase mental health provision for both adults and children. Ultimately, we hope this programme will support the development of a long-term bereavement strategy.”

What does the programme hope to achieve?

The successful bid should achieve the following outcomes for bereaved military families:

  • Easy access to mental health support throughout the stages of grief;
  • inclusive and holistic support, regardless of the nature of bereavement;
  • a sense of connection with the community;
  • collaboration between support organisations;
  • better access to holistic, peer-led and professional support.

When do I need to apply by?

This is a two-stage process – the first submission deadline is noon on Wednesday 2 April 2025. For more information, visit Empowering Bereaved Military Families Programme
