AFF understands that many Service families are facing housing uncertainty if they are trying to access surplus SFA, particularly couples in long-term relationships and parents with non-resident children.
As announced in the recently published Defence Housing Strategy 2025, to help support these families while new housing policies and homes are being finalised, the MOD is planning an interim rental support scheme.
This scheme is currently being designed to support eligible families who may need to rent privately where SFA is unavailable at their duty station.
Why this matters
Families may have had to make alternative housing arrangements at their own expense and this has left families facing uncertainty about where they will live – especially if they are in a surplus SFA for one posting and are unable to secure surplus at their new duty station. The interim rental support scheme is a step towards easing that pressure.
Accommodation Support Cell
While the full details of the scheme are still being finalised, a dedicated Accommodation Support Cell (ASC) has been set up to help provide support to Service personnel and families. Any comments you may have will help the ASC to feedback solid data to policy makers.
If you think this scheme might apply to you, you can contact the Accommodation Support Cell from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 3.30pm on Friday.
