The phasing out of physical visa documents from 31 December means that Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) are no longer being issued with successful applications to enter or remain in the UK.
If you are granted a visa to enter the UK you will still be given a 90-day entry clearance visa, but you will not have to collect a BRP in the UK. You will be sent information on how to create a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account that will allow you to access your eVisa once you’re in the UK.
The information will be contained in the email you receive from UKVI confirming that your application has been successful. It’s important you read this information and follow the instructions carefully.
If you already have a BRP you should create a UKVI account now, if you’ve not done so already.
If you have never had a BRP because you have indefinite leave as a stamp in your passport, you will need to complete a form and have your biometrics taken before you can create a UKVI account and view your eVisa. Please contact us if you’re in this position.
You will need a UKVI account from 2025 to view and share your status with third parties.
You will also need an account to travel – your passport should be linked to your UKVI account to enable you to enter the UK. Border officials will just need to scan your passport on entry to view your eVisa.
