01   Visas to enter the UK

Visit visa

Length: 6 months multi-entry
Cost: £115

Limited Leave to Enter (if spouse/child/fiance(e) or civil partner)

Length: 5 years
Cost: £1,846 (will be reimbursed if on an overseas assignment)

Indefinite Leave to Enter (only eligible if on an overseas assignment)

Length: Indefinite
Cost: £2,885 (can claim back the cost of limited leave if on an overseas assignment, see link below)

Replacement vignette

Length: 90 days
Cost: £154 (will be reimbursed if on an overseas assignment)

Exchange rates

All Home Office exchange rates are set at 4% above the Oanda live bid rates, therefore on average you will be paying £60-70 above the exchange rate. For example, currently an application to enter the UK from Fiji will cost 2340USD which is £1,927.

Biometric enrolment

At most visa application centres outside UK there is an additional separate fee of £55 to be paid at the centre when you have your biometrics taken.

02   Visas inside the UK

Form FLR(AF)

Length: 5 years or 30 months depending on the circumstances
Cost
: £1,258

When to use it:

  1. Applications to switch onto the AF rules if you are in the UK on a visa issued for more than six months

  2. Applications to switch onto the AF rules if you are in the UK as an overstayer or a visitor
    More info: AFF: Visas – Spouses/children in the UK without valid visas (Overstayers)
  3. Applications to extend your stay in UK if you are married to a soldier and can’t apply for ILR (for example due to a criminal conviction or not meeting the KoLL requirement or you are now an overstayer)

  4. Applications for leave to remain in the UK because you are discharging from the Army and have a criminal conviction and you have served between 4-6 years (i.e. you are not eligible for a fee waiver)

Form FLR(FP)

Length: 30 months

When to use it:

  1. Applications made on the basis of family or private life in the UK (for example, if you have British children and are separated from the serving person)

Form SET(AF)

Length: Indefinite
Cost
: £2,885

When to use it:

  1. Applications for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in the UK for spouses and children (check if eligible first)

  2. Applications from bereaved partners or children

  3. Applications for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in the UK on discharge from the Armed Forces if the soldier has completed four years’ service (visa fee waived if you have served for 6 years or more or have medically discharged)

Priority Service and Super Priority Service

When to use the Priority Service: To get a decision within 5 working days SET(AF) only
Cost: £500*
When to use the Super Priority Service: To get a decision the next working day SET(AF) only
Cost: £1,000*

* NOTE: You may be offered these at the payment stage of the application. If you are a soldier on discharge your application will be fast-tracked anyway so this option is not necessary.

Biometrics

Once you have submitted your application you are required to book a biometrics appointment through UKVCAS (UK Visa and Citizenship Services). There are usually free biometric appointments available if you look a few weeks ahead but otherwise they start at £135 per person. You are also not required to pay to submit your supporting documents at the appointment, you can upload them in advance of the appointment for free. If you have questions regarding booking your appointment or uploading documents please contact the F&C team.

03   Citizenship

Form AN

When to use it: For all adult applications for Citizenship
Cost: £1,630

Form B(OTA)

When to use it: For applications to register as a British Citizen by those with BN(O) passports
Cost: £1,431

Form MN1

When to use it: For all applications to register children as British Citizens
Cost: £1,214 (additional £80 if the child turns 18 after the application is submitted)
